Flash Flooding Site visit - Parishioners welcome

Flash flooding and the SC Section 19 report.

There will be a site visit to Shepton Montague on Tuesday 2nd July, followed by a public meeting / presentation (open to all residents) in Hadspen Village Hall, commencing at 18:30 .

The principle purpose of the site visit is to allow Anna Meares, (Flood Investigation Officer at Somerset Council) to see for herself the local topology and locations where flooding took place on 9th May 2023.  She will be accompanied by Dr Paul Elliston*, who has visited us in the past and who has also been involved with the project to install river level gauges in both the Cam Valley and those in our village.

All interested residents are invited to the Hadspen meeting: it would be useful to know numbers so please let me know if you hope to attend.

Nb prior to the evening meeting, Anna & Paul will be visiting the sites as follows

Their provisional timetable is

10:00-12:00 – Hadspen

12:45-14:45 – Shepton Montague

15:00-17:00 – Pitcombe

* Community Engagement Officer (Flooding), Somerset Rivers Authority / Somerset Council – Emergency Planning, Response & Recovery

"Shepton Montague Parish Council (SMPC) takes a keen and active interest in all local planning issues and is consulted by the Local Planning Authority, Somerset Council, over applications received from within the Parish and, occasionally, from outside the Parish (but of potential interest to our residents). This is particularly important in relation to developments, which fall within one or more adjacent parishes.
The Parish Council takes account of any comments which it receives within the specified time limits from both individuals and organisations. Residents of the Parish are therefore encouraged to consult the published details of the submitted applications and make known to both Somerset Council and SMPC any comments they may have.
As we do not always hear about developments in neighbouring Parishes, parishioners are encouraged to contact the Parish Council and pass on any information they believe might be of wider interest to our community. For instance,  Black Eight is a community group from Yarlington, Galhampton and North Cadbury, sharing concerns on planned property developments in their area."
